Lake Titicaca

Today, we woke up fairly late, around 11:30 am, since we were exhausted from all the walking we've done the past two days. We decided that today we'd do something that doesn't require walking -- and that is going boating on a lake. We were very lucky, the closest lake to us was Lake Titicaca, and it was probably less hour away! Not only was it very close to La Paz, but it is one of the largest freshwater lakes in South America. Also, it's one of the most popular commercially navigable lakes in South America as well. So we were lucky that it was so close to us.
As we left the hotel, we picked up some more of those delicious salteƱas for lunch, and we headed to the Lake Titicaca. The drive ended up taking us about an hour and fifteen minutes, a tiny bit longer than expected, but still not very long. When we arrived at the docks, we rented a small-medium sized power Yacht, which was quite cheap, then again, lots of things here are cheap, the economy is quite bad, but the tourism helps it greatly. Anyway, the Yacht was pretty sweet, and we had it all to ourselves. We brought some tubes, water ski's, fishing supplies, and food & water, since we planned on being out here all day.

Once we got out to the most remote part of the lake, we started tubing and water skiing, and it was loads of fun. We also fished a ton, and we caught about a dozen or so fish. They were all catfish, and they were fairly large, probably 2 or even 3 feet! It was a blast! We had to be careful though, there were a lot of native islands that were highly populated with people, so we were careful where we drove, especially when we were tubing. Regardless, we had a great time out on the lake today, and in my opinion it was the most fun thing we've done so far.

We headed back early because we didn't want to get lost in the lake, so we took it back to the docks, and drove back to the hotel. By the time we reached home it was around eleven o'clock. We were exhausted from being in the sun all day, so we slept right when we got right to sleep.

A beautiful picture of Titicaca, with mountains in the background, showing that the lake is quite highly elevated.
