It was a good decision to go hiking in the mountains yesterday, because as it turns out our flight back to Michigan is actually at five o'clock; we had thought it was at eight o'clock for some reason. So today we don't have time to do much. My parents and sister want to just wander around in La Paz again, going to all the shops, but I really wanted to go biking on the Yungas Road, since it wasn't too far away, and it is supposed to be very intense for biking as it's very steep. I convinced my parents that I'm responsible enough to go by myself, so I got ready to go quickly.
I took a private taxi there, and it took about an hour. Once I had gotten there, it was exactly eleven o'clock , so I had about three hours before I needed start heading back to the hotel. Upon arrival I noticed this place is quite popular for tourists, so I felt pretty safe. I rented the best mountain bike they had, and I I reached one of the hills that was specifically set up to ensure the bikers would be as safe as possible. After I was provided with my equipment and given instructions by the guides there, I was to begin my bike down the hills.
As I had started down the hills, and I had seen some amazing scenery, as this place is quite elevated, with very high steep cliffs over a forest, but I didn't have time to enjoy the scenery, I needed to pay close attention. It was a very fast but fairly smooth journey, and it lasted two whole hours. It was the one of the most thrilling things I've ever done, it was a blast. I wish I could do it again! After I finished, I took the same private taxi back to La Paz. Once I got there, I found another little shop that served those delicious SalteƱas. I bought myself three of them, and headed back to the hotel on foot since I was only a few blocks away from the hotel. I expected to see my family, but didn't really look for them, I'd just wait for them back at the hotel. I waited in the hotel for about twenty minutes and they came back, and said we should leave. So we packed up ours things, and headed to the airport, ready to go home.
Part of the Yungas Road made for mountain biking. One wrong turn and you could be killed.
Our trip to Bolivia was absolutely amazing, we had a great time. I hope to come back here next year, and the year after that.
